Blog Post #6

My initial experience using Diigo is a very limited understanding of the different tools that Diigo has available. For instance, one of our portfolio item required to bookmark an academic journal while another portfolio item required us to bookmark an article that we had to annotate utilizing the tools that Diigo has to offer. At first, I was unfamiliar with how to navigate through Diigo and the different tools available. However, after watching some YouTube videos, I was able to successfully navigate through Diigo. I personally like the Google extension that Diigo has to offer because it makes it easier to annotate online sources, whether it is to highlight or add a sticky note. One of my least favorite thing about Diigo is the layout of the site. The layout confuses me as I sometimes do not see the lines that separate my posts.

Prior to joining this class, I had no real knowledge nor experience surrounding blogging. At first, I thought I was going to have a strong dislike with blogging only because of the fact that I am not well articulated with my words. However, with this being my sixth blog post, I have found a joy in creating these blogs! At first, I think why I disliked blogging was because I was more worried about answering the prompts provided in Canvas rather than just writing. However, even though I am still answering the prompts in my blog, I have been able to express my opinions as well within the blogs. Throughout this blogging experience, I have learned how to provide my own opinions and provide my voice within my blogs.

One interesting Web 2.0 tool that I believe I will incorporate in my teaching are Ted Talks. Personally, I love watching Ted Talks as it provides a variety of options available from different well-known speakers. It allows individuals to hear about educational and social topics that are heavily well-known. I feel like as a future educator, there is only so much I can say on a certain topic. However, it is beneficial to have supporting videos that demonstrate more information on the topic from an individual who is reliable. Ted Talks are also another way to step away from traditional lecture style teaching, thus, engaging students. Below the link to this Web 2.0 tool is provided.

  1. Hi Rosa! I want to start out by saying that your blog is so cute and aesthetically pleasing. I had the same experience with Diigo as you, it was confusing at first, but once I watched the tutorials on Canvas I was good to go. I like the fact that we are able to share websites with each other in groups and even annotate them for others to see, and I think it will make a really useful tool for teaching in the future.
I also had no prior experience to blogging before this class! I have actually really enjoyed our blogging assignments though. I like that we can use informal language and really make our blog our own. I think that it has been really easy to navigate blogger because our professor gives pretty clear instructions and tutorials in our Zoom meetings.
I have probably been watching Ted Talks in school since around middle school, and I have to say that I enjoy them too. I agree that they make a great teaching tool. These Ted Talk speakers can really bring a new perspective to different subjects that some people might have never thought of. Similar to a tool like Quizlet, Ted Talks give students an opportunity to learn in a new way.
